The Convenience of an In-House Pharmacy
When a pet needs medication, it’s the owner who must procure it. So, if the time should come when one of our vets writes your pet a prescription, take comfort in knowing it will be filled before you leave for home.
Our In-House Pharmacy
At the Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill, we provide our clients with a selection of veterinary services we consider to be comprehensive. The ability to fill your pet’s prescription at our in-house pharmacy not only ensures your beloved companion receives their relief in a timely manner, but it also makes things easier on you.
The in-house pharmacy at the Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill carries nearly all the medications any pet would ever need, including name brands and generics. Prescriptions are filled quickly and compounding options are available if necessary. In addition, we carry various nutraceutical products, heartworm medication, and flea and tick treatments, as well as many over-the-counter options.
Tips for Administering Medication to Your Pet
Pets don’t always make the best patients. If you’re having trouble administering medication to your pet, ask our vets about the following options:
- Hiding medication — Medications in pill form can typically be wrapped inside your pet’s favorite treat. Treats specifically designed to hide medications, such as Greenies Pill Pockets, can be purchased at the Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill. Greenies Pill Pockets contain a built-in pouch for hiding medication for your dog or cat and come in a variety of flavors and sizes.
- Crushing medication — Many pills can be crushed and mixed into your pet’s food. Check with our vets first, as some pills have a protective coating that prohibits thorough crushing.
- Pill syringe — For the most finicky of pets, a pill syringe is a good option. This tool places the pill in the back of your pet’s throat, preventing him or her from spitting it out.
Please remember that when administering medication to your dog or cat, it is highly important to follow the veterinarian’s instructions. Doing otherwise could bring serious harm to your pet.
